About Us
Automotive Upfitters, founded in 2024 by Ryan and Will, is a small business with a large mission statement; “Designed to Impress, Built to Last.” Those are not just the words under our logo, it is a heartfelt and passion driven oath taken by two young owners who decided to take their 20+ years of combined experience and enthusiasm for creative problem solving and turn it into a full-service vehicle conversion company. Automotive Upfitters aims to be the missing link or the “middlemen” in the vehicle conversion industry. We live for the odd jobs, the one-off’s, the crazy and the unique, and taking on the “small” clients that other companies can’t or won’t make time for. Let’s meet our owners.
Meet the Owners
Ryan
Owner
Ryan was born and raised in Baltimore, MD to a family of five brothers and a sister. During his younger years, Ryan experienced many hardships growing up. From surviving the streets to excelling in a youth outdoor survival camp, these challenging experiences laid the foundation for hard work, mental toughness and an unmatched drive and determination. These characteristics proved indispensable in the following years as Ryan started on his journey through life. Starting out in the fast-food industry and working through a variety of other jobs, Ryan found his life to be unfulfilled, so he began to take steps to better himself. Putting himself through college with a focus on electrical engineering, he learned and grew as an unknown spark of passion began to grow. Ryan soon found himself working in the engineering department of a large mobility conversion manufacturer. This is where he and Will would later meet. Here his insatiable desire to design, engineer and troubleshoot found an endless buffet of learning, networking and inspiration. Ryan took part in engineering projects like luxury commercial transportation vehicles, technologically advanced ambulances and mobility driven private vehicle conversions that would aid in the transportation of wheelchair bound people. After helping change people’s lives for over a decade, Ryan decided it was time to expand his repertoire and change things up. He began working as the Operations Manager for a small startup van conversion company where he drastically nurtured and transformed the vision of the Owner, into a reality. Implementing more efficient processes and strategies and bringing his years of experience and connections to the table, Ryan proved to be an indispensable asset to the growth and success in the camper van industry. This soon turned into a need to want more for himself and others looking for a company that is willing to do anything. After several drinks, crazy ideas and long days and nights Automotive Upfitters was born. When Ryan isn’t working his passion for the outdoors and spending time with his Wife and 3 daughters fills his soul with much happiness. They are the drive that pushes him everyday to bring new and exciting ideas to the automotive conversion industry.
Will
Owner
Born and raised in Carroll County, MD, Will grew up in a farmhouse with a large family of 7 brothers and sisters. His creative mind and need for artistic expression led to sifting through a variety of jobs ranging from an actor at a Haunted Attractions and Dietary Waitstaff at a nursing home, to stocking a local department store. Finally, he found the beginning of his creative outlet in the construction industry. Working as a helper, Will learned the tricks of trade and a variety of skills from the carpentry and construction industry. In his free time, Will became obsessed with the world of cosplay and began his journey of becoming a ‘maker.’ Crafting intricate costumes, props (like fake weapons, shields and armor) and accessories commissioned by fellow cosplayers, Steampunk Events and a few small-time movie makers. A change in careers led Will to the residential and commercial solar industry for a period, when he finally landed where the dream for Automotive Upfitters began. Working on the assembly line, Will worked for a large mobility conversion manufacturer where he took part in the intense process of turning a minivan in to a wheel chair accessible vehicle. After a few years of not being able to scratch the “itch”, Will found himself at a startup campervan conversion company where he was part of the team responsible for creating high-end, detail oriented, camper van conversion. There, he found it. The spark, that lit the flame, The water, soil and nutrients that rapidly grew the seed into what would become…Automotive Upfitters.
